Tulip Ride - April 26, 2008

Liam, Payton and I drove up to La Conner Saturday morning and met a group of friends for a bicycle ride through the tulip fields.  It was Payton's first road ride on the Burley Piccolo (a trail-a-bike towed behind our tandem), and she did really well, enjoying the whole 15 miles.  We spend some time at Roozengarde, one of the larger participants in the annual Skagit Valley Tulip Festival, enjoying the flowers and the company.  The ride was relatively short and flat, but perfect for an early season ride, and the weather was ideal all around.  We stopped at the La Conner Brewing Company for lunch and toasted our late friend Gerry Rawlings, who organized this ride in past years and passed away in December.  After lunch we walked down the street to the local ice cream parlor and again toasted Gerry; one of his favorite foods was ice cream, especially during a bike ride
