The morning was chilly and cloudy, and for the first day I started out wearing my rain jacket. After breakfast we headed east through town and down the valley along the Pend Orielle River. The sun came out about 10 miles into the day and the jackets came off. The terrain today was rolling hill after rolling hill, and the miles melted away. My shoulders were very sore and the morning seemed to drag on. We crossed the Idaho/Montana border about 35 miles into the day, and 10 miles later arrived at the mid-day rest stop. After lunch and a postcard purchase we headed out again, and I felt re-energized. All afternoon we dodged rain showers and thunderstorms, getting hit with a few light showers but not getting too wet. We rode through the town of Thompson Falls, MT and pulled into the high school just as the clouds opened up. After a break inside waiting out the storm and waiting for the rest of the riders to arrive, we unloaded the truck and quickly setup the tents before the next rain showers hit. Then came a 1 mile walk into town for dinner at Lydia's Restaurant, delicious salad and pizza. Early to bed again tonight as we have our first century (100+ miles) tomorrow.
