| We got to sleep in today as it's a short ride - only 54 miles. It's amazing how our standards have changed; several months ago 54 miles was quite an accomplishment, but today most of the riders finished it before noon. The climb out of Billings was beautiful, a relatively gentle winding road that curved in and out of the hillside, and provided several spectacular vistas of the basin in which Billings sits. As we crested the top and came to the water stop (where I came to a halt and promptly fell on my side as I couldn't unclip from my pedals - only my pride was bruised), the terrain turned to rolling hills and more desolate country again. This continued all the way into Hardin, with the exception of a single stand of trees (OK, 2 trees) where the second water stop was set up. Bruce and I rolled on and fought a building headwind into town, where we arrived around noon and checking in at the field where we're camped. We're next to the community pool and went for a refreshing swim, then headed to the library for more web site updates. |
