This was the most relaxing rest day so far. I slept in to about 8:00 am
(late for this trip), and spent some time uploading web pages and photos.
Went to breakfast at Perkins down the street, then back to the motel to pick
up the laptop and a book, and head into town. Since it's about 1½ miles to
the main part of New Ulm, I rode my bike, and after scouting out the area
ended up at a coffee house with several other Big Riders. I sat and chatted
with a few for a bit, got some coffee and jumped on their Internet
connection to read email. After a bit it was time to head to the movie
theater to see "I, Robot", which was a pretty good movie, although not
completely based on the book of the same name by Isaac Asimov. I must have
still been tired, because Jeanette had to keep jabbing me with her elbow to
keep me from snoring in my seat. After the movie I headed out to ride around town, down to the river, and to take some pictures of the beautiful houses that dot the neighborhoods around downtown. As this is a rest day I didn't want to spend too much time on the bike, so it was back to the coffee house for another cup and a snack on their porch in the sun, where I sat and read for a bit over an hour. Then it was time to hit the local German restaurant (New Ulm is a primarily German town and much of the decor on the main street reflects this) for a delicious dinner. Then we all congregated at the elementary school for lunch prep and our route meeting. Back to the motel for some web updating and packing for our next segment (7 days, 3 of them 100+ miles). Note - We made the New Ulm Journal's Sunday edition, front page below the fold! |
