July 14th to July 26th, 2001
During the summer of 1996, I participated in a 10-day ALAW ride from Kalispell, MT to Calgary, Alberta. It was such a scenic and fun route that, in 2001, Bruce Sherman and I decided to organize a fully supported ride ourselves. Our route was a bit different, we stopped the ride in Banff as it's such a nice place to visit, and the ride from Banff to Calgary isn't very fun. We also added an additional riding day in the middle by splitting 2 long (and very windy) days into 3 more manageable (but still very windy) days. The ride attracted 12 riders, many of them friends from past ALAW rides, and we were supported by 3 vehicles. We provided camping, shared preparation of meals, and all transportation for under $500 per person. It was a great time, although much of the fun was in the planning. We'll organize another ride one of these days.
